Imran Khan, founder president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), acknowledged that the current government has managed to stabilize Pakistan’s ailing economy, which was on the verge of collapse, Express News reported.
While speaking to the media from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Imran stated, “The government has successfully prevented the economy from going bankrupt.”
When asked by reporters if he was admitting that the government had improved the economy, Imran replied: “The economy has stabilized and been saved from bankruptcy, but it has not grown yet.”
Meanwhile, a delegation from the PTI negotiation committee reached Adiala jail to meet Imran Khan.
The committee will report to him on the progress made during the first round of talks, the sources confirmed.
The delegation includes key PTI leaders such as Omar Ayub, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Allama Nasir Abbas and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Gandapur’s vehicle was allowed to enter the jail premises for the meeting.
Military courts hand down sentences for May 9 riots
The PTI founding president’s statement came as military courts sentenced 60 more civilians to prison terms for their role in violent attacks on military installations during the national unrest on May 9, 2023.
The latest sentences come just days after the ISPR announced that 25 civilians had been sentenced to prison for their participation in the same events.
Among those sentenced is Hasaan Niazi, nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was given a 10-year sentence.
The individuals have been convicted for their involvement in violent attacks on key military and government installations, including the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore, General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, ISI office in Faisalabad and Bannu Cantt, among others. ISPR stated. .
The military’s media wing further said that proceedings against nine additional accused individuals in the May 9 cases have been completed.
