Imran nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

Islamabad:

Former Pakistani Prime Minister imprisoned, Imran Khan, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on his government and efforts for human rights and democracy.

The announcement was made the other day by members of the World Alliance of Pakistan (PWA), a defense group founded last December, which also belongs to the Norwegian political party Particiet Sentrum.

“We are pleased to announce on behalf of Partiet Sentrum who, in alliance with someone with the right to nominate, we have nominated Imran Khan, a former Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with Human Rights and Democracy in Pakistan,” said Partiet Sentrum in X.

In 2019, Khan was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to promote peace in southern Asia.

Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee receives hundreds of nominations, after which they select the winner through a long process of eight months.

Khan, also the founder of the main party of Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), has been imprisoned since August 2023. This January, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison in a case related to the misuse of authority and corruption.

It was the fourth main case in which the former prime minister has been convicted. Three previous convictions related to the sale of state gifts, state secrets with escape and illegal marriage were annulled or suspended by the courts.

Khan lost power after a vote without trust in April 2022. He denies all the charges against him, calling them politically motivated.
