India has imposed an immediate prohibition of the importation of goods that originate or travel through Pakistan, the Indian government announced as hostilities between the two countries intensified after a deadly attack in illegally occupied Indians Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk).
The General Directorate of Foreign Trade said the restriction was promulgated “in the interest of national security and public policy”, without an exemption schedule.
The decision follows a April 22 attack in the Pahalgam area of Iiojk that killed at least 26 tourists.
India has blamed Pakistan for supporting the attackers, an accusation that Islamabad denies strongly, asking for an impartial international investigation.
Islamabad also claimed that India is preparing for military reprisals and responded by stopping all trade at border crossings, closing her airspace to Indian flights and expelling Indian diplomats.
Pakistan warned India that any action to interrupt water flows under the swing of the Indo waters would be considered an act of war.
Previously, Pakistan has dismissed India’s request to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to review the Islamabad Financial Support Program.
An advisor to the Ministry of Finance of Pakistan confirmed Friday that the rescue of the IMF of $ 7 billion from the country, secured last year, is still “well on the way” and critic for macroeconomic stability.
Islamabad also received additional $ 1.3 billion in climate resilience funds in March 2025.
“This program is not only stabilizing Pakistan, it is a confidence construction,” said financial advisor Khurram Schehzad. “The last review of the IMF was without problems, and our meetings with global financial institutions in Washington reflected a high interest of investors.”
The movement of India at pressure, the IMF occurs when the two nuclear weapons neighbors impose reciprocal suspensions to treaties, diplomatic exchanges and access to airspace, deepening hostilities after New Delhi blamed Pakistan for the attack of the pahalgama without presenting evidence.
The authorities argue that India’s attempt to involve the IMF is an extension of his political campaign to isolate Pakistan diplomatically.
Neither the Ministry of Finance of India nor the IMF have publicly responded to Pakistan’s concerns.
Air space closures, the suspension of the swing of the Indo waters and the diplomatic expulsions of Tit-Forfor Tat have further tensioned fragile regional balance.
