IndyCar star Will Power was involved in a terrifying crash during qualifying Saturday afternoon before the Alabama Kids Indy Grand Prix in Birmingham.
Power was cornering at Barber Motorsports Park when his wheels locked. He couldn’t make the sharp left turn he needed. Instead, Power smashed through the gravel and headed straight toward the barrier.

He was in the top 10 during qualifying before crashing.
“The brake just went in,” Power said after being released from the infield spotlight. “I think the front ones were working, so it was a rear brake failure. That’s all I know.”
Power maintained that the car was still fine despite not having had a “clean lap” during the race weekend so far. He will start 23rd when it’s time to turn green on Sunday.

After the accident he said he looked much worse than he felt. He managed to recover a bit during qualifying and will start in 14th place.
