Senior bureaucrat Muhammad Rashid Hanif has been appointed secretary of the information department of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government, according to a notification issued by the General Services and Administration Department (S&GAD) on Sunday.

Hanif started his career in 1999.

A law graduate from Punjab University, Lahore, he has held several key positions, including deputy secretary and additional secretary in the finance and S&GAD departments.

He has also held the positions of Special Secretary to the Prime Minister of AJK and Special Secretary for Health.

In addition, Hanif has also served as Director General of the Directorate General of Tourism, Secretary of Sports, Youth and Culture and Secretary of IT.

He is known for advocating institutional reforms focused on improving the delivery of public services.

Speaking to The Express PAkGazette, Hanif said that the current era is dominated by digital media and along with traditional print and electronic platforms, more emphasis should be placed on digital media.

He highlighted the need to promote quality content that promotes national integration and highlights human rights violations committed by the Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He added that the information department would be put on a fast track of development to reach wider audiences by effectively utilizing all its available resources.
