To begin the celebrations of World Environment Day, Devcom-Pakistan organized the Environmental Awards of Pakistan and the Conference of Best Practices 2025 under the topic “Beyond plastic waste: navigating the climatic and environmental risks.”
The organizers gathered main voices in environmental policy, science, conservation and sustainable development. World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5 since 1973 under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), is the largest global platform for environmental awareness. This year, the global celebration is being organized by the Republic of Korea with an approach to ending plastic pollution, a great threat to climatic objectives, oceanic health, biodiversity and human well -being.
The Environmental Conservation Awards (individuals) recognized the green champions, including Rina Saeed Khan, for their transformative voluntary leadership as president of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board.
Sana Raja, for its outstanding wildlife rescue efforts, including the rehabilitation of endangered species such as Pangolines and bears dancing. Master Usman, for his community water collection initiative promoted by the community, building more than 770 ponds and promoting water conservation in the mosques.
Muhammad Irshad Ramay, an environmental engineer who established a cleaner production center in Pakistan, promoting the sustainability and efficiency of resources. Riffat Ara Baig, to involve more than 5,000 students in environmental art, awareness campaigns and cleaning units since 1996.
Silvia Shamoon, for her decade work in the improvement of marginal neighborhood environments through tree planting, waste segregation and the empowerment of young people.
Special mentions were made for Dr. Mehar Nigar for his “Saaf Muhalla Saaf Pakistan” initiative. Kashaf Akhtar to launch a startup that recycles plastics with a single use in ecological pots and tiles.
The Federal Minister of the Investment Board (BOI) delivered a shocking speech and praised the awards initiative as a step to recognize and motivate sustainability efforts in the country.
He said: “Being plastic pollution is not just an environmental necessity, it is a national imperative.
