- The “summer update” firmware adds an increase in battery life and improvements in the exposure and low light performance
- ND filters, ultra drums and custom designed lenses now available
- Plus a set of improvements for motorcyclists
I am a great admirer of the Insta360 x5, calling it the “best 360 camera currently in the market” in my review of the beginning of this year. His big image sensors make him the first 360 camera that would be happy to use at night, his lenses are more difficult than ever (and easier to replace if you damage them) and their simple controls and assisted by AI-AI make it a pleasure to use.
But Insta360 does not rest on its laurels when it comes to X5. Hot after the impressive Air Insta360 MIC, the wireless microphone complement announced a few weeks ago, the company has just launched a “summer update” for the camera, which includes not only a significant firmware update but also a variety of new accessories and even a new special limited edition of the camera for motorcyclists. The result seems that the best 360 camera is about to improve even more.
Let’s start with firmware update. In the first place, the battery life increases by adding the energy saving resistance mode to the recording of 8K (which increases the battery life to “just under two hours” of continuous recording) and improving the resistance mode performance for the recording of 5.7K (the recording time increasing from 185 minutes to 208 minutes when it is triggered at 5.7k 24p).
It also brings a new feature called Adaptivetone, designed to improve exposure in difficult rays where part of the scene is very dark and part is very brilliant, such as shooting from an inside shaded in a sun illuminated by the sun. Previously, the X5 used the same lighting data for both lenses, but adaptivetone registers it independently, automatically balancing the exhibition, preserving the outstanding details and the shadow and maintaining things as natural. It sounds a bit like HDR, which the X5 already offers, so I am anxious to try it and see what it can do beyond that.
The third and final improvement of the holder is that Purevideo, the video mode with low Inca light360, is now available when the unique lens mode of X5 is used. Previously it was only available for the 360 video, so this feels like a correction that puts the unique lens mode in line with its double lens counterpart.
The new hardware set360 x5 also comes
INSTA360 is also launching a series of new accessories for the X5, starting with a set of ND filters, the first designed specifically for a 360 camera. The X5 ND filters set contains three pairs of filters (ND16, ND32 and ND64), which provides users with more control over the exhibition on bright and sunny days. These can be joined to the X5 lenses in the same way screw as the lens protectors, and must allow movement blur for rapid movement images.
There is also a new custom replacement lens kit, which presents works of art that are shown in the lenses. Users can load their own patterns, use prefabricated patterns or use AI to create them. This seems merely cosmetic.
Insta360 has also launched a new ultra battery for the most demanding users. With a capacity of 2,800 mAh, add approximately 17% of additional execution to the X5, carrying it just under four hours when it is recorded to 5.7K 24p of quality using the resistance mode. The ultra battery costs $ 49.99 (the price of the United Kingdom and Australia TBC).
The new final accessory announced is the invisible Dive Case Pro, which offers a better optical quality than the existing X5 diving box, as well as the control of flotability, which allows users to keep the camera floating in place under water. There is still no release date for this, but it should arrive soon.
Together with the summer update, Insta360 also announced a new BMW Mottorad edition of the Insta360 x5. This limited editing package, aimed at motorcyclists, presents a different design, an ultra battery and a mini remote control that allows passengers to control the camera without taking off their hands of the handlebar.
It also comes with some specific motorcycle software improvements, which I suspect that will implement all the cameras Insta360 x5 with the previous firmware update. The stabilization of immersive agitation is a new mode of stabilization of images that preserves a little smoothie and natural inclination, to add a certain sensation of speed and terrain, while the blur of the plate will automatically tear the tuition of its bicycle in the images. There is also integration for SENA headphones.
All of the above seems to be ready to consolidate the Insta360 X5 as the best 360 camera complete in the market, for now, at least. With the Gopro Max 2 caused and DJI, according to reports, preparing its own OSMO 360 camera for launch, there could be other strong contenders in the market at the end of this summer.
