- Intel places seven CPUs in PassMark’s top ten price-performance rankings
- AMD Leads Only Through Discounted Ryzen 5 Clearance Tickets
- Value favors Intel among widely available desktop CPUs
Intel dominates the top end of PassMark’s price-performance rankings in a way that would have seemed unlikely just a few years ago. Looking at the current ranking, Intel places seven CPUs in the top ten when measuring performance versus price.
AMD takes the top two spots, but don’t be fooled. One comes from an entry-level Ryzen 5 that benefits from a clearance price, while the other is an EPYC part listed at prices that are likely coming from second-hand or refurbished markets rather than new retailers.
The Ryzen 5’s position reflects its low price rather than performance that rivals AMD’s new mid- or high-end desktop CPUs.
Intel favored in a wide price range
Intel’s representation in the top ten is more consistent, with a mix of Core Ultra and older Core processors grouped closely in terms of price efficiency without relying on clearance-level discounts.
That creates a leaderboard in which Intel performs well across a wide range of prices rather than across a few isolated offerings.
Further down the table, AMD’s higher-core-count desktop CPUs lag behind in price and performance, as their stronger raw scores don’t translate into better value once price is taken into account.
Outside of the discounted entries near the top, much of AMD’s core desktop lineup trails Intel in performance per dollar.
This is important because PassMark’s chart combines current retail CPUs with non-standard listings and clearance prices, meaning that not all high-ranking positions reflect what buyers will see when purchasing new parts.
Still, the general pattern remains clear: Intel occupies most of the top value spots using current, widely available CPUs.
AMD’s strongest value comes from older or discounted products rather than its latest releases, limiting how widely those results apply to new system versions.
For buyers focused on performance per dollar, PassMark data points to Intel offering more predictable value across its lineup.
AMD still competes at the top and in specific cases at a discount, but the balance of everyday value is now tilted heavily in favor of the Blue Team.
