- Nvidia invests $ 5 billion in Intel as part of a new surprise collaboration
- Intel to design CPU X86 Personalized for Nvidia Data Center platforms
- New Intel X86 RTX with NVIDIA GPU for Power Future PCS
Intel and NVIDIA have announced a high -range association that will see the old design and manufacture custom X86 processors for NVIDIA data centers platforms, as well as build new consumption chips for the PC market.
The agreement will also see NVIDIA investing $ 5 billion in the ordinary Intel shares at $ 23.28 per share, waiting for regulatory approval.
“AI is feeding a new industrial revolution and reinventing each layer of the computer battery, from silicon to systems and software,” said the CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang.
“In the heart of this reinvention is the Cuda architecture of Nvidia. This historical collaboration combines the AI and the accelerated computer pile with the Intel CPU and the vast ecosystem X86: a fusion of two world -class platforms. Together, we will expand our ecosystems and establish the basis for the next time of computing.” “.” “.” “.” “
Historical agreement, but questions remain
Companies said they plan to develop multiple generations of products together.
For the Data Center, Intel will build CPU Nvidia-Custom X86 that NVIDIA will integrate into its AI infrastructure.
For PC, Intel will manufacture X86 System-on chips that make up chiplets GPU Nvidia RTX connected through NVLink.
These processors will be marketed as Intel X86 RTX and are aimed at laptops and compact PCs.
“Intel’s architecture X86 has been fundamental to modern computer science for decades, and we are innovating in our portfolio to allow the workloads of the future,” said Intel’s CEO, Lip -bu Tan.
“The main Intel data computer platforms, combined with our process technology, manufacturing and advanced packaging capabilities, will complement NVIDIA AI and accelerated computer leadership to allow new advances for the industry.”
The investment comes in a good time for Intel, which has recently gone through some well -documented struggles that led to the United States government to intervene to acquire a 10% participation in the chips manufacturer.
“We appreciate the confidence that Jensen and the Nvidia team have placed in us with their investment and we look forward to work ahead as we innovate for customers and increase our business,” he added so.
Nvidia stressed, the collaboration is at an early stage and products of products are not yet established.
Although it is still committed to its processors based on arms like Grace and Vera, the GPU giant described the Intel Roadmap as additive.
Intel has not confirmed whether these new chips will be completely manufactured in their own nodes or will partially subcontract to TSMC.
The announcement, although it is a surprise, conforms to Intel’s impulse to strengthen its strategy and associations IDM 2.0, as Nvidia expands its processors for AI and consumer computer science.
