The NBA defender champion, Boston Celtics, will soon be under a new property. The current franchise owned group agreed to sell the club to William Chisholm for a record of $ 6.1 billion, agencies that represent both parties involved in the sale confirmed to Associated Press.
ESPN and Sportico were among the first reports of the agreement for sale.
Chisholm is the managing partner of Symphony Technology Group, a private capital firm based in California. The $ 6.1 billion figure represents the highest purchase price for a sports team in the history of North America. An investment group led by Josh Harris previously established the brand in 2023 when he bought the NFL Washington commanders to Daniel Snyder for $ 6.05 billion.

Chisholm grew in Massachusetts and has been a fan of Celtics for years, Boston Globe reported. The current co -owner of the Celtics, Robert Hale, is part of the incoming property group, according to The Globe. Bruce Beal Jr., president of related companies, is also one of the investors in the new group.

Shortly after the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA finals last year, Boston Basketball Partners of the Grousbeck LLC family revealed its intention to sell the franchise. The family cited heritage and family planning purposes. The family has controlled the famous franchise since 2002, when the group closed with a sale of $ 360 million.

WyC Grousbeck is expected to continue representing the franchise at the Board of Governors of the NBA during the 2027-28 season. Boston Basketball Partners LLC intends to sell the balance of its shares in 2028.
