- The iOS 18.4 update seems to be causing problems to carplay users
- Symptoms include connection problems and lack of dashboard information
- There is still no solid solution, aggravating the problem
Apple has just launched iOS 18.4, which has brought a series of changes to the users of many of the best iPhones. Unfortunately, however, it seems that the change has made Apple’s Carplay platform unusable for several people, bringing interruptions to the entertainment system in Apple’s car.
And according to multiple publications in X and Reddit, it seems that the problems are not restricted to a particular aspect of Carplay. Instead, a wide range of technical problems seems to be arising.
For example, the user Nrein7 published on Reddit to say that the board of your car no longer shows reproducing information after being updated to iOS 18.4. Other Redditors intervened to say that they could not connect their phone to their car in the first place, while others discovered that their iPhones would only connect when they used certain USB ports, or they would disconnect repeatedly and connect again over time.
We communicate with Apple to find out if this is a confirmed problem and we will update this story if we receive news about a potential solution.
Not just a car brand
Errors seem to affect users of several brands and car models, including Audi, Ford, Honda and Mazda. That suggests that the problem could lie with Carplay instead of specific car manufacturer. In fact, a Redditor said that Volkswagen had told them that “Apple has to fix” to err, which implies that it is not due to Volkswagen’s own software. We have communicated with Apple to find out if this is the case.
Users have reported that they tested several methods to solve the problem, including the restart of their iPhones, not matching them and repair them with their cars and restart their vehicles. Some have found that these methods work, but for others, the problems remained.
Whatever the exact nature of the failure, it is a frustrating problem to find, and for now, there is no confirmed solution. If you are being a victim of this carplay accident, you may only have to wait for Apple to display an update. The company has implemented the beta iOS 18.5 to the evaluators, and the full version is expected to be published next month. Hopefully that provides a solution, if there is no solution before that.
