- iOS 26 Developer Beta 4 includes the return of a controversial iPhone function
- Notification summaries for news applications have returned
- This time, users will have the option to enable or disable the summary tool
Apple has restored its controversial Intelligence notification summaries of Apple for news applications in the last beta iOS 26.
The summary tool had been disabled for all news applications notifications earlier this year after a setback where Apple Intelligence incorrectly summarized the headlines of the BBC news.
Now, with the launch of the iOS 26 Beta 4 developer, Apple has reintroduced the option for users to resume news notifications using AI.
With the imminent Beta Beta iOS Beta, this change is expected to also be available for a broader user base, just a few days.
Unlike the last time we had the function, users are now received with multiple options related to Apple’s intelligence notification summaries after the iOS 26 update. You can choose to disable the notification summaries completely, or select among multiple categories such as news and entertainment, communication and social, and all other applications.
Initially, Apple eliminated notification summaries for news applications as part of iOS 18.3 that was launched in January. Now, however, it seems that the Cupertino -based company is happier with the deployment of the function, opting to restore it and give users the option with a brief discharge of responsibility that “the summary can change the meaning of the original holders. Verify the information.”
He is back, but I turned it off anyway
I have been spraying iOS 26 on my iPhone 16 Pro Max for more than a month, and although I am very happy with the recent update of iOS 26 Developer Beta 4 in terms of performance improvements compared to Beta 3, I am less happy to return the summaries of news notifications.
The first thing I did after trying notification summaries in iOS 18.1 was to turn them off, and although I am willing to enable the function again for all my notifications this time, I am not counting my chickens before they hatch.
I hope that Apple has rectified some of the obvious problems with the reliability of notifications in the last betas iOS 26, although I am concerned that the discharge of responsibility that highlights the possible problems is only a way to border any uproar, instead of maintaining the characteristic as unreliable as before.
As long as I use it, time will say it. IOS 26 is still in beta and there is a lot of time for Apple to rectify any possible inconvenience before the official launch at the end of this year. Until then, I will give notification summaries a last chance.
