Islamabad: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a day visit to meet the main leaders, the authorities said, in the midst of a growing tension with neighboring India after an attack against tourists last month in Indians occupied by Jammu and Kashmira (Iiojk).

India has accused Pakistan of participation in the deadly attack, which Islamabad denies. He says that he has “credible intelligence” that India intends to launch military actions, feeding the perspectives of war between rivals with nuclear weapons.

The Iranian ambassador to Pakistan says Amiri Moghadam told state media that Pakistan-Indian confrontation would be on the agenda.

“Given Iran’s close relations with Pakistan and India, the ways to reduce tension in the subcontinent will be among the problems … persecuted during Araqchi meetings,” he added.

Iranian Foreign Minister was received by the additional secretary West Asia Syed Asad Gillani, Moghadam and other senior Pakistani officials.

During the visit, he will hold important meetings with the Pakistani leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

Araqchi is expected to be in Islamabad for one day, visit Delhi at the end of this week. It was not clear immediately if the visits were planned before the last tension.

“The two parties will also exchange views on regional and global developments,” Pakistan’s Fo said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India did not immediately respond to a request for comments. He has previously ruled out the mediation of third parties in matters related to Kashmir.

According to a FO statement, this high -level visit reflects the deeply rooted and strong relationship between Pakistan and the fraternal nation of Iran.

It also underlines the shared commitment of the two countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. The two parties will also exchange views on regional and global developments.

Since the attack, Islamabad has been in contact with a series of capitals regarding the situation, according to its FO, more recently through a phone call between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, and the Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

“Lavrov expressed concern about the situation and emphasized the importance of diplomacy to solve problems,” said the FO in a statement on Sunday, added that he urged restriction to both sides, asking them to avoid climbing.

Islamabad has also asked its United Nations Envoy to seek a UN of the UN Security Council to inform the body about what it called the “aggressive actions” of India risking peace and security.
