The Advisory Committee of the Indo River System Authority (IRSA) will hold a meeting on May 5 to review the water availability situation in the country for Kharif crops.
The meeting will also review the status of the implementations of the decisions taken by the Advisory Committee at its last meeting on March 26. The meeting assumes a new meaning following the decision of April 23 of India to unilaterally suspend the Indo Water Treaty (IWT).
According to an official statement regarding the water situation in the rivers and deposits of the country as of May 1, the entrance to the Indo River in Tarbela remained 63,000 Cusecs while the output flow was recorded at 52,100 Cusecs.
The entrance to the Kabul River in Nowshera was 35,100 CUSECs, while the output flow was also 35,100 Cusecs.
In the Khyberabad bridge, both the input and the output flow remained 65,500 CUSECs. The entrance to the Jhelum river in Mangla was recorded at 48,700 CUSECs, while the output flow remained 32,000 Cusecs.
The entrance of the Chenab River in Marala was 27,600 CUSECs, while the output flow was 19,100 Cusecs.
In Jinnah Barge, the entrance was recorded at 91,100 Cusecs, while the output flow was 84,600 Cusecs
In Chashma Barge, the entrance was 76,500 Cusecs, while the output flow was 76,000 Cusecs; In Taunsa Barge, the entrance was recorded at 56,800 Cusecs and Fluima 47,900 CUSECs.
In Guddu Barge, the entrance was 40,100 CUSECs and the exit was 40,100 CUSECs; In Sukkur Barge, the entrance was 35,200 CUSECs and exit, 9,800 CUSECs; In Kotri Barge, the entrance remained 5,000 CUSECs and departure, 200 cusecs; In Trimmu Barge, the entrance was 10,700 CUSECs and the output exit was Zero Cusecs, while in Panjnad, the entrance remained 5,100 Cusec with zero output flow.
In the Tarbela dam, whose minimum operation level is 1,402 feet and the maximum conservation level is 1,550 feet, the current water level is 1,432.04 feet. Water storage usable to May 1 was 0.560 million acres-pies.
In the mangla dam, whose minimum operation level is 1,050 feet and the maximum conservation level is 1,242 feet, the current level of water is 1,132.70 feet. The storage of usable water in the dam from May 1 was 1,095 million acres-pies.
In the Chashma dam, whose minimum level of operation is 638.15 feet and the maximum conservation level is 649 feet, the current water level is 643.80 feet. Usable water storage on Thursday was 0.107 million acres-pies
The document declared that the entrance and departure data of the Indo River in Tarbela and Chashma, the Kabul River in Nowshera and the Jhelum River in Mangla are based on an average flow of 24 hours. “For all other places, the data represents the flow of water as recorded at 6:00 am today,” he said.
