As a trillion-dollar company with one of the most recognized brands in the world, I don’t think Apple has much to worry about. But when I looked at the results of a recent survey I conducted, asking you, dear readers, if you used Apple Intelligence, the results made me groan.
This is because a considerable 96% of respondents selected the “no, it’s not for me” option, leaving only 4% to select “yes, it’s pretty good” as an answer.
However, I never find myself using Apple Intelligence enthusiastically. I keep notification summaries just for the fun of it, even though they’re not exactly the most accurate. Occasionally, the summary will misinterpret a group of notifications and show some words that will leave me with a feeling of dread or panic until I properly open a message or email and discover that everything is fine.
But I’m just a tired man who may be a little bored with phones; Those of you who are more actively involved in the latest features of smartphone software may demand much more from AI tools. And it seems to me that Apple is still not doing its iPhone users any favors.
“Apple can’t figure out their AI strategy to save their lives,” said one commenter known as ‘laughfactory.’ “I love Apple’s stuff, but they are WAY off base when it comes to AI.”
I’d say the commenter is right, and with such a high percentage of people taking a dim view of Apple Intelligence, I’d also say Apple has reason to be a little embarrassed, even though it’s unlikely to be hurt by such a failure in any significant monetary way.
And since there’s a movement toward ‘AI phones’ and other really smart technologies, I think Tim Cook and his Cupertino team should be a little worried that Apple may be left behind in the world of AI.
There’s hope on the horizon with the news that Apple will leverage Google Gemini to give Siri and Apple Intelligence an intelligence boost, but that hasn’t happened yet. And now that there’s a rumor that iOS 27 could be delayed, Siri could soon become one of Apple’s biggest problems.
