Apple has just revealed Macos Tahoe 26 on WWDC 2025 and, in addition to getting the wraps of the next incarnation of its desktop operating system, known as Tahoe, the company gave us the scoop on hardware compatibility.
In other words, we now know which Macs will be good to run macos Tahoe, and what portable computers and Apple computers will be out in the cold, stuck in the current version that is Macos Sequioa.
And as expected, continuing the trend established last year, more than Apple Macs with Intel CPUs will be banned from entry with Tahoe macOS.
So what Macs will be compatible with macOS 26? Here is the complete list for the various models of Apple computers:
- MacBook Air M1 or posterior
- MacBook Pro 16 inches 2019 or posterior
- MacBook Pro 2020 or posterior
- MacBook Pro 13-Pulada 2020 with four Thunderbolt 3 ports
- IMAC 2020 or posterior
- Mac Mini 2020 or posterior
- Mac Pro 2019 or posterior
- Mac Studio 2022 and later
Newer hardware without luck
As you can realize, this leaves a relatively new Hardware that languishes in the land of macOS 15, unable to make the leap to macos 26.
In particular, that includes a 2020 laptop: the MacBook Air with an Intel CPU, since only the macbook air with M1 of that year is compatible with Tahoe macOS.
While that is the worst offender in terms of being dragged prematurely outside the support coil, those who have a 2018 MacBook Pro are also in the shake, just like Mac Mini 2018 owners for that case.
All these are quite recent machines, it could also be argued that the IMAC Pro 2017 is, and none of them can be updated to Macos 26. Boo, Siseo, etc. …
However, that does not mean that these Mac are suddenly unused. Although Tahoe is not an option for them, Apple will continue to provide safety updates for macOS 15 sequoia in the future. Therefore, it will remain a perfectly good operating system while that happens (which should be a couple of years of updates, usually).
You will simply not get the new features offered by Macos 26 (and you can read more about them here).
