Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, celebrated his first official telephone call with the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, on Monday, discussing bilateral ties, economic cooperation and regional security, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The call marked the first direct communication between the two leaders since Rubio assumed his role as the main diplomat of the United States.

“During the call, Giving reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen his association with the United States,” the statement said. Giving emphasized greater cooperation in areas such as trade, investment and counterterrorism.

Rubio, in turn, expressed the desire of the United States to expand economic commitment, particularly in sectors such as critical minerals. “He said that cooperation in the economy and trade would be the distinctive seal of future relations between the two countries,” said the Foreign Ministry.

The conversation also touched the counterterrorism. Dar highlighted the efforts of Pakistan between 2013 and 2018, which Rubio recognized with appreciation, while reaffirming the commitment of the United States to improve anti -terrorism cooperation.

The two officials also addressed the situation in Afghanistan, agreeing on the need to solve the problem of the US military team that remained after the US withdrawal in 2021.
