Hptical buttons (also known as solid state buttons) do not move physically: they only give feedback to their fingers in the form of vibrations to simulate a click. Apple uses them for their Macbook Trackpads, and it seems that they will soon reach many other devices.
According to the well -known Tipster Instant Digital (through Macrumors), Apple is exploring the idea of using haptic buttons for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, although the indications are that this is not something we will see in the updates this year.
This is not the first time this rumor appears, we think we could recover the haptic buttons with the iPhone 15 series, if you remember, but it seems that they are back on the Apple agenda, and this time not only for the iPhone.
We do not get much more information than that, but the benefits of these haptic buttons are that they last longer (because they are not moving in reality) and offer more customization options (because the strength of the comments can be adjusted as necessary).
Buttoned
According to this rumor, at least, it seems unlikely that the haptic buttons are ready for iPhone 17, or in fact for Apple Watch’s 11 series. Both devices will now be in the last stages of their development before an expected September launch.
However, looking later, part of this technology could appear on Apple’s 2026 devices (when Apple’s launching schedule could be more stepped). It could also appear slowly, in some buttons, but not in others.
The iPhone 16 phones have a camera control button that is partially haptic, but uses technology that is actually a solid and hybrid state mechanism. Possibly shows Apple experimenting before entering Haptics.
Other leaks have suggested that Apple is working towards a total screen iPhone in the coming years (without notches or islands), while rumors of an iphone without port have been spinning for years. Haptic buttons could be another part of that great plan.
