There is no doubt that Over-Over-Over-Over-Over-Over-Over-Over of Sony are a really excellent pair of headphones. But at $ 449 / £ 399 / AU $ 699 they are also a pair of quite expensive headphones. If you are looking for an audio update but I would prefer something a bit more affordable, Sony seems to be preparing exactly that.
They have leaked a new pair of Sony headphones, and seem to be the ears. And that means that they are probably the successors of the Sony Wh-Ch520 or WH-C720N, although we cannot rule out a new model that we have not seen before.
The first one had a launch price of $ 60 / £ 60 / au $ 99, and the last one was $ 129 / £ 99 / au $ 259. And both are going up a bit: two years, which is a long time in the headphones market.
The new headphones on Sony’s ear: what we know so far
As is usually the case with Sony Leaks, the news comes through the Walkman blog and their access to Sony’s shipping manifestos.
These manifestos include a new model number, YY2998, which describe as “Bluetooth headphones with overload cover, 2.4GHz band, brand: Sony … Black, Silver”. 2.4Ghz is where Bluetooth lives.
The previous leaks for a different set of headphones had the Yy2985 model number, which are believed to be the WF-1000xm6 headphones that are expected to be launched at the end of this year.
The headphones detailed in the manifestos seem to be proof samples, which means that this is a very early leak: the big leaks tend to be when the headphones are subjected to the various certification bodies, a process that tends to happen in the final stages before the launch of the product.
