The growing popularity of the cloud infrastructure has not erased the need for traditional configurations.
New Liquid Web investigation has suggested that dedicated servers not only remain stable, but gain traction in certain business circles.
Despite the narration of the mastery of the ubiquitous cloud, 86% of IT professionals surveyed reported that their organizations still depend on dedicated servers, a surprising figure in an age allegedly defined by flexibility and abstraction.
Why do dedicated servers remain important?
The dedicated infrastructure seems to be thriving in a wide range of industries, particularly where regulatory supervision and data control are not negotiable.
The government agencies showed the highest adoption at 93%, closely followed by you and finance at 91%and 90%, respectively.
Even smaller organizations are using dedicated environments, with 68% of the microbusinesss that use them.
Almost half (42%) of respondents said they had migrated workloads away from public services in the cloud during the past year, often in response to concerns about compliance, safety or increased costs.
Most respondents, 55%, pointed out the need for total control and customization as their main justification to stick with dedicated hardware.
Others highlighted the performance of the network, predictable prices and physical security as driving factors.
“IT professionals migrate the workloads of the public cloud to dedicated environments underline a deliberate strategy to recover control, customization and predictable costs,” said Ryan Macdonald, CTO of Liquid Web.
“Dedicated servers provide the control, performance and security that IT leaders need to build future proof architectures.”
There are concerns about the efficiency of the cloud, and almost half of IT professionals reported having found unexpected expenses related to the cloud, which generally vary between $ 5,000 and $ 25,000.
In addition, 32% believe that their current cloud infrastructure budget is wasting in characteristics or capacity that are never completely used.
This disappointment complicates the perception of the cloud as the best web accommodation solution, at least for all cases of use.
It is clear that dedicated servers are not simply relics of a past era, and continue to fulfill roles in the best cloud accommodation strategies by offering physical and isolated environments for confidential data and performance intensive workloads.
For future perspectives, 45% of IT professionals predict that dedicated servers will only grow in importance for 2030, and 53% called them essential, but 13% saw them as obsolete.
There is a growing feeling among professionals that cloud infrastructure is not always synonymous with innovation.
“They think that everything is in ‘The cloud’ now and they do not realize that the cloud is often the dedicated server of another person,” said the survey of a Z generation.
This echoes the broadest vision that even the best dedicated server settings still support much of what is marketed as the cloud.
For many organizations, the cloud may not be the final destination; It is only part of a more nuanced infrastructure trip.
