The senior minister of Sindh and the leader of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), Sharjeel Inam Memon, expressed a strong opposition to any channel project on the Indo River, declaring that he would fight against such initiatives until his last breath.

Going to a press conference, Memon declared that the nation must join to strengthen Pakistan and address the challenges he faces, urging the public to put aside their differences on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, said Express News.

Memon’s statement followed a recent series of terrorist incidents, where innocent civilians were killed in bus attacks. He praised the sacrifices of military and security forces, asking for continuous efforts to protect the nation.

The principal minister reiterated the position of the PPP on the controversial channel projects, emphasizing that the party would demand that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issue a clear statement on the arrest of such initiatives. “We will not allow any channel on the Indo River, and I urge prime minister to announce the cancellation of the projects on April 4,” Memon said.

Memon also pointed to critics, accusing some of being influenced by external forces, specifically naming those who supposedly support the Raw Intelligence Agency of India.

He stressed that significant dialogue could only take place with those who really support Pakistan.

Highlighting the importance of the freedom of the media, Memon reiterated the position of the PPP on the rights of the press. “PPP has always worked for the rights of journalists,” he said. “We are committed to guaranteeing freedom of the press and we will continue firm against any unfair treatment of media staff.”

In addition, Memon criticized the Law on the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA), while stating that PPP does not support laws that reduce the freedom of the media or allow the dissemination of false news.

When addressing internal problems, Memon asked for political dialogue in Baluchistan while stressing that terrorists should be treated firmly.

He concluded by emphasizing the position of the PPP on human rights and the freedom of the media, stating that the party would continue to fight for these principles.
