There are many reasons why you would want to see a new Paramount movie roofer – the crazy true story of convinced criminal Jeffrey Manchester, Toys R Us nostalgia, the extended naked Channing Tatum scene. But have you considered that it’s actually a Christmas movie?
It’s a perspective I missed when I first saw it, but speaking to director Derek Cianfrance after it premiered at the London Film Festival changed my mind. The festive season is staring us in the face all the time and is also essential to telling Manchester’s story.
To me, therefore, it makes sense that roofer Viewers could have the same debate among themselves, and that reminds me of the old “it’s die hard A Christmas movie?”, a dispute in which we refuse to agree. For Cianfrance, the comparison makes a lot of sense… and yes, die hard It’s a Christmas movie.
There’s no doubt that Roofman is a Christmas movie, so don’t resist.

Look
“That would be the dream, right? I think it could happen,” Cianfrance responds when I ask him about roofer following on die hardThe steps.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that this is a Christmas movie. Christmas movies are very nostalgic and are often about a homecoming. They take place in small towns where a big event comes to bring everyone together and listen to good Christmas music.”
“I was able to put some of my favorite Christmas music in this movie. We’ll see, if it stands the test of time… let’s have this talk again in two, three years.”
Personally I think there is no doubt roofer will stand the test of time, just like die hard. Its retelling of Manchester’s history ticks all the boxes for every member of the family, being kid-friendly enough for children and intriguing and complex enough for adults. Without arguments or people begging to change the channel, we will have a happy holiday season, and that is the peace we are all seeking.
Speaking with Kirsten Dunst at the premiere, she tells me another ideal reason why we’ll want to see Roofman this December. “It’s a human story that’s done in a way that’s not cheesy. It makes you feel good and I think it’s refreshing…we need a little bit of that.”
