Porsche has finally revealed everything about its upcoming electrified Cayenne model, which will be offered in both the Cayenne Electric and the spicier Cayenne Turbo Electric variants.
The latter will be crowned the most powerful Porsche production model to date, thanks to its frankly terrifying 850 kW (1,156 HP) of power and up to 1,500 Nm of torque when Launch Control is activated.
Direct cooling of the rear axle engine oil allows for continuous high outputs, with plenty of technology borrowed from motorsport to ensure you can perform your party tricks on a regular basis.
A top speed of 162mph and a 0-62mph sprint time of just 2.5 seconds are possible in the German brand’s robust SUV, while adaptive air suspension and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus mean it’s just as happy tearing up the racetrack as it is tackling the school run.
But the breadth of its capabilities doesn’t end there, because both the Cayenne Electric and the Cayenne Turbo Electric feature all-wheel drive with several driving modes and an easily adjustable suspension that will also allow you to happily traverse some pretty tough terrain.
Porsche also claims it is one of the most technologically advanced electric vehicles it has developed to date, with a new 113 kWh high-voltage battery offering an official range of 600 kilometers on a single charge.
Add in an 800V architecture similar to that found in the Macan Electric and Taycan, and the Cayenne can happily charge at 390kW, with the German brand suggesting this can be extended to 400kW under the right charging conditions.
In the real world, this translates to a 10 to 80 percent charge in about 16 minutes from the fastest DC charging outlets, or 200 additional miles in just 10 minutes of charging time.
The ‘basic’ model is no slouch, offering 300 kW (408 hp) in normal operation and 325 kW (442 hp) and 835 Nm of torque when using Launch Control. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, something that looks like a supercar.
However, the list of “world firsts” gets even longer when you consider that this will be the first electric vehicle with optional 11 kW wireless inductive charging, which comes in the form of a cost-option floor plate that delivers charging without needing to be plugged in.
Despite the massive amounts of power and bandwidth of capabilities offered by the electrified Cayenne, Porsche continues to play it safe by continuing to offer a variety of powertrain options.
Both the pure internal combustion engine and hybrid variants will be developed well into the next decade, according to Porsche sales and marketing chief Matthias Becker.
In the UK, prices start at £83,200 for the Cayenne and £130,900 for the Cayenne Turbo, and order books are now open. In the United States, prices are set at $109,000 and $163,000 (about AU$168,000 and $250,000), respectively.
on the big screen
In addition to welcome design tweaks to the exterior, the Cayenne Electric will bring with it the largest display area ever seen inside a Porsche.
This is all thanks to a new central ‘Flow Display’, complete with curved surface, a fully digital instrument cluster with 14.25-inch OLED technology and an optional 14.9-inch passenger screen.
There’s also an optional AR head-up display that offers the equivalent of an 87-inch viewing area 10m in front of the vehicle… in case you need even more digital images to burn onto your retinas.
The German company has also upped the ante on its new AI-powered voice assistant, which now understands “complex and interrelated queries, recognizes context and responds like a true interlocutor,” according to the brand.
This central flow display and the optional passenger display can also host a growing number of third-party apps, as Porsche opens up its digital ecosystem to streaming, gaming and infotainment developers.
