DC Studios CEO James Gunn Has the Answer to the Delay Behind the Release of the batman continuation.
James addressed the concerns in a recent Thread post, stating that writer’s block is the main obstacle behind the October 1, 2026 release being pushed back to 2027.
“The only reason for the delay is that there is no complete script (those of you following me here probably already know this),” James began.
“Matt is committed to making the best movie possible, and no one can guess exactly how long it will take to write a script,” he said of blockbuster director Matt Reeves.
He added that the blockbuster starring Robert Pattinson will easily take up to two years to delicately make.
“Once there is a finished script, there are about two years left for pre-production, filming and post-production for big films.”
James defended the delay in a follow-up post, noting that the delay is not that unusual in Hollywood history.
“To be fair, a gap of five years or more is quite common in sequels. 7 years between Extraterrestrial and extraterrestrials. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between avatars. 36 years between Best weapons. And of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3”, he concluded.
