- Fans have already presented great theories about the comics movie
Ready for another Superman round on the big screen? You should be, because James Gunn has revealed the official title and the release date of the next adventure of Steel’s man.
Publication on social networks yesterday (September 3), GUNN confirmed that his next DC Universe (DCU) project is officially called Man of tomorrow. The sequel run by David Korenswt will fly to theaters on July 9, 2027, that is, almost exactly two years after Gunn’s Superman The film started the DCU on the silver screen.

The title and launch date reveal that they were accompanied by a new work of art by DC Jim Lee’s iconic comics artist. The illustration, which shows the headline holding a screwdriver and supported by the adversary Lex Luthor, who can Superman 2.
In the hours from the announcement, Lee’s work is not the only thing that makes fans talk about DC comic film. In fact, four theories of private fanatics, which have appeared in threads in the pages of Dculeaks and DC Cinematic Reddit, and in a reviewer, in addition to innumerable publications in other social media applications, have dominated online discussions since then Man of tomorrowS Present. Then, break it up.
Complete spoilers are still for 2025 Superman movie. Continue with caution if you haven’t seen it yet.
1. Superman and Lex Luthor will form a restless alliance in the man of tomorrow
Perhaps the greatest fans theory that will arise from yesterday’s announcement is that Superman, the real name Clark Kent/Kal-El, and Luthor will join to defeat a common enemy.
Some readers could immediately make fun of that suggestion. After all, Luthor tried to tear down Supes in the first DCU Chapter one movie. But for the intervention of the allies of Steel’s man, Luthor would also have been successful; Instead, he was defeated and taken to Belle Reve prison.
Why, then, Superman’s Archionemigo would help him in the next Gunn movie? Perhaps the steel man needs someone like Luthor, who is incredibly intelligent and is not afraid to get his hands dirty, to fight something or someone who represents a significant threat to the earth. Luthor could be influenced to help Supes and protect the planet by reducing its sentence if you accept to help.
A similar carrot has been hung against several supervillains in DC comics, movies, television programs and games over the decades, so there is no reason why GUNN cannot use this plot device in Man of tomorrowany. Based on a work of art published on the Instagram account of Korenswet (see above), which was drawn and signed by Jorge Jiménez, and shows Supes and Luthor aligned and prepared for battle, it seems that the duo will form a restless alliance at some point Superman 2.
Of course, it is possible, very likely, that Luthor betray Kent at some point.
A third illustration, one drawn by Mitch Gerads, appeared in the Instagram account of actor Nicholas Hault, who plays Luthor in the DCU. The work of art, which you can see before, not only reveals that the couple faces, but shows Luthor using their power suit to fight Kent. Could we see them Duke in Man of tomorrowThe final act after defeating your common enemy? I would not be surprised if we did.
2. Two supervillans are the favorites of being the main Superman 2 antagonist
If you know and Luthor set aside their differences to assume an important threat, there are two main candidates that, in my opinion, are perfectly adjusted to the invoice.
The first option, and more likely, is Brainiac. Another classic DC comics supervillain is a supremely intelligent Android that comes from the planet Colu, and is obsessed with collecting all knowledge in the known universe. Crossing the galaxy, Brainiac finds highly advanced civilizations and reduces its most important cities, so that they can preserve them for eternity as part of their bottles based on bottles.
In the comics, Brainiac is more famous for catching the Kryptonian city of Kandor, which is Kal-El’s true home, within one of these bottles. Brainiac is also responsible for the destruction of Krypton in some comic continuities of DC. If you are installed as Man of tomorrowThe main antagonist, Supes will not need to be requested twice to eliminate someone who could be responsible for destroying his first home, and that houses the ambitions to do the same to his adoptive home.
Given how intelligent Brainiac is, Supes would need someone from a similar intellect, such as Luthor, to metaphorically get into the minds of a supervillain partner and formulate a plan to prevent the earth from destroying.
If Brainiac is not Superman 2The great bad, General Zod would be another fantastic option.
Companion Kryptonian de Supes, who has been portrayed by Michael Shannon and the late terrence print in the live action film adaptations of previous Superman, would be an ideal option to continue part of the story described this year. Superman. In that movie, we knew that Kal’s parents wanted their son to conquer the earth, take numerous wives/brides and effectively repopulate our planet with human Kryptonian hybrids to turn it into Kripton 2.0.
In a nutshell, that does not happen. However, Zod, who, as he is in the comics, may or may not be locked in the ghost zone at this point of the DCU, could invade the earth to finish what Kal was supposed to start, if he manages to escape from the Kriptonia prison that is (possibly) imprisoned. Luthor’s help to do it.
3. Man of tomorrow could present many other heroes
However, Kent and Luthor could not do everything on their own. They would need another hero or six, to see any extraterrestrial threat that is turned on.
An actor who has apparently confirmed that they will be part of the procedures is Isabela Merced. After playing Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl in Superman and Pacifier Season 2, it seems that its third departure from DCU will enter Man of tomorrow. That is based on Merced Sharing Gunn’s announcement about his own Instagram story, which was accompanied by the legend “See You Soon”.
There are many other candidates in the mixture. The Guy Gardner/Green Lantern of Nathan Fillion, Michael Holt/Mister Ferrific de Edi Gathegi, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl of Milly Alcock, Krypto The Sortedog and even Chris Smith/Palemaker of John Cena could be called to help.
Aaron Pierre comments on the announcement ‘Man of Tomorrow’ by James Gunn, could you see John Stewart in the movie? 👀 pic.twitter.com/2auwc9ziytSeptember 3, 2025
But there is someone else who could have confirmed that they will also be presented to help Supes.
Aaron Pierre, who is ready to play another green flashlight in John Stewart in the next original HBO Max TV TV FlashlightsHe has involved a lot that he is part of the cast. In fact, he commented in Gunn’s publication after the announcement, and Gunn then responded to Pierre’s comment with the ‘praise’ emoji. If this is not a Stewart code appearing in Superman 2I don’t know what it is.
4. The man of tomorrow could lead to part II of Batman
This is the most extravagant fans theory I have seen since Man of tomorrow He was revealed, but it is certainly worth discussing it.
At the time of writing Man of tomorrow Will reach cinemas three months before Batman II part. The sequel of the long duration of the welcome of 2022 The BatmanThe film starring Robert Pattinson will premiere on October 1, 2027.
Now, it is likely that it is just a coincidence that Superman 2 and Batman II part It will be launched in the same year. However, there have been many, and I mean many, rumors that circulate online that the reverse Bat Reeves could fuse with the Gunn DCU, which would see Pattinson officially installed as the Dark Knight of the DCU.
I have already covered that speculation widely, so I will not do it here again. However, if you want to read why some fans are convinced that Pattinson will become the DCU Batman, look at these pieces in Gunn discussing the script of the movie DCU Batman, Gunn saying that seeing Bat de Reeves will continue to be independent of the DCU, and the hoo-hah around the possibility that Robin appears in Batman II part.
Personally, I do not believe that the reverse of Reeves will fold in the DCU. However, the perspective of Man of tomorrow and Batman II part The launch very close to each other adds fuel to the fire for those convinced that it will be. Devils, someone even believes that Superman 2The history of history will lead directly to Batman II part! Until Gunn announce who will play the crusader with a layer in the DCU, wait for this debate to rumble.
What do you think of the theories of previous fans? Is there substance in any or all of them? And what do you want to see Man of tomorrow? Answer me in the comments.
