James Gunn Superman Starring David Corenswet, it generated a debate online about whether or not it is a good idea to keep the character’s famous red underwear.
Leaked set images showed David wearing the briefs after Zack Snyder dropped them during Henry Cavill’s run as Superman.
Gunn said Gizmodo who thought it was a no-brainer to get rid of the silly trunks, but David convinced him otherwise.
“We were testing all these different versions and we tested them with trunks and without trunks,” Gunn said. “And one of the things David said is that Superman wants kids not to be afraid of him. He’s an alien. He has these incredible powers. It shoots rays from its eyes… It’s incredibly powerful and could be considered terrifying. He wants people to like him. “He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity.”
He continued: “So he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people not afraid of him, that shows that hope and that positivity. And that really clicked for me.”
In explaining the basics of the Superman character, the guardians of the galaxy The director said: “I think trying to pretend that Superman’s costume doesn’t have a certain frivolity at its core, trying to make it look serious, is silly because he’s a superhero. He is the first, brightly colored and that is what he is.”
This comes as Warner Bros. prepares to release the first trailer for James Gunn. Superman on December 19.
