Japanese technological giants Sony and Line join forces in blockchain deal

Sony’s Blockchain division is bringing the giant line of Japanese social networks to the web3 world, with plans to adapt several popular miniplapas to Sony’s Sooneium network, the company announced Wednesday.

Line informs approximately 200 million active users on its platform, and the agreement will bring four line games, or “miniplapas”, Soneium: Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match and Pocket Mob. Integration is intended to facilitate characteristics such as rewards and purchases in the game.

Soneium is mainly administered by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint program between Sony and Startale Labs, based in Singapore. SBSL imagines the association as a way to “transcend the limits, which allows users to experience the benefits of web without friction”, according to a statement shared with Coindesk.

“Line has built a strong presence and integrating successful mini-complications into the Soneium ecosystem is the next step to make Soneium more accessible,” said Jun Watanabe, president of Sony Block Solutions Labs. “We believe that this collaboration will promote commitment and adoption in a way that were previously difficult to achieve.”

Soneium launched in January, and at that time, the team said they hoped to unite web2 users in the web3 space. Blockchain is a layer 2 on Ethereum that uses Optimism OPT technology.
