- Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista to star in action comedy film
- The Amazon original film will be released at the end of January.
Prime Video has revealed the first action-packed trailer for its upcoming original film demolition crew.
The Hawaii-set action comedy film, starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, will debut on Amazon’s streaming platform on January 28. It’s time, then, for the company’s entertainment division to show us some real footage before the launch.
Look
One of the first new Prime Video movies of 2026, demolition crew sees the pair play estranged half-brothers Jonny and James. Forced to team up after their father mysteriously dies, it’s not long before the duo begin to be hunted by the Yakuza. Cue Jonny to convince James to uncover the truth and learn more about his father’s enigmatic past when family secrets resurface.
Joining Momoa and Bautista on this exciting, humorous journey are Claes Bang (The man of the north), Jacob Batalon (the MCU Spider-Man film trilogy), Stephen Root (Barry), Morena Baccarín (deadpool), and Temeura Morrison (star wars). Angel Manuel Soto (blue beetle) is in charge of directing, while Jonathan Tropper (Your friends and neighbors) wrote the script.
Will Prime Video’s next movie ruin the competition or be a huge flop?
Based on its trailer, demolition crew It won’t appeal to the entire Prime Video demographic. In fact, there are users who don’t care about action movies, while others will wait to see how they are reviewed first before deciding whether to stream the latest movie offering from one of the world’s best streaming services.
But if recent history has taught me anything, it is that demolition crew It has all the makings of being another Prime Video hit.
On the one hand, it seems like the kind of big, silly fun that viewers will follow for an easy, relaxing watch after a long week of work. Add in the fact that it stars two fairly popular actors in Momoa and Bautista, its explosive set pieces and cheap laughs, and it already seems like the kind of movie that the streaming generation can enjoy for what it is before moving on to the next one.
That’s a formula Amazon has used to great effect before with action-oriented films. Just watch its 2024 remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal road houseor last year starring John Cena and Idris Elba. Heads of State movie as proof of this. With over 50 million and over 75 million views respectively, the pairing was a considerable hit for the streamer. That’s despite their respective critical ratings of 52% and 68% on Rotten Tomatoes as well.
Frankly, I hope demolition crewThe final review score lands in a similar ballpark, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it follows the aforementioned duo’s lead and achieves a comparable audience. I guess we’ll find out for sure in the weeks following its global release on Prime Video.
