Jennifer Lawrence has once again shown that her friendship with Emma Stone comes with a lot of humor, especially when awards season arrives.
The actress openly joked about trolling her longtime best friend after Stone earned a SAG-AFTRA nomination while she didn’t, turning a potentially awkward moment into a light-hearted story that delighted fans.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 7, during a conversation with Josh Horowitz at New York’s 92NY Kaufmann Concert HallLawrence addressed the situation while talking about her new movie. Die my love.
“She was nominated for SAG today and I wasn’t,” Lawrence, 35, noted, setting the tone for the fun exchange that followed.
Lawrence explained that the group chat she shares with Stone, 37, and her friends quickly filled up with congratulatory messages for Stone.
“And all our friends said, ‘Congratulations, Emma,’” he said. “And then he would just make a sad face.”
The Oscar winner made it clear that there was no real bad blood, just a friendly rivalry between two actors who have shared similar career paths for years.
Stone earned her nomination for her leading role in Bugoniawhile Lawrence, despite having earned nominations elsewhere for Die my lovewas left out of the Actor Awards programming.
That didn’t stop Lawrence from continuing with the jokes.
“And then every time she tried to talk today, I told her… ‘If you can talk, why aren’t you so sorry?’ ” she joked. He quickly added, “But yeah, no, she’s been hitting me for decades and it’s an honor.”
The actress also reflected on how closely their careers have intertwined, noting that they have often opted for the same roles.
A missed opportunity still makes her laugh.
“The one I wanted him to get was Easy A,” Lawrence admitted. “I was crazy about Easy A, and I really should have gotten it, right?… It would have been great.”
Despite the feigned complaints, Lawrence’s comments underscored genuine admiration and affection.
The couple has supported each other through major milestones, including introducing Lawrence when Stone won her second Oscar in 2024.
