New York Jets star wide receiver Garrett Wilson responded to popular sports personality Stephen A. Smith after comments Smith made about his team.
The Jets’ organizational problems led Smith to say he would rather drink poison than play for the NFL team.
“I would go back to college before playing for the Jets. They’re an atrocity in football. They’re horrible,” Smith said during a rant on ESPN’s “First Take.”

Wilson quickly jumped into the comments of post X, calling Smith a “sellout.”
“Damn, you have to be a sellout and, above all, square to be on ESPN these days. I loved that show,” Wilson wrote.
JETS MAKE NFL HISTORY WITH SEASON OF UNPRECEDENTED FUTILITY AND RECORD-BREAKING FAILURES
What sparked Smith’s rant was a conversation about Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore, who could be the Jets’ second overall pick if he decides to leave school after the College Football Playoff.
“I ate to give myself food poisoning and be like garbage before I played for the Jets,” Smith said. “I would do anything I could do to be alive and well in the end, except to ruin their thoughts of wanting me on their roster.”
Smith also criticized Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who kept his job despite a 3-14 season that resulted in poor NFL history, most notably being the first team without an interception all season.
“I’m a black man who has consistently looked for opportunities for black coaches over the years. I’ve done that,” Smith explained. “He’s gotten a lot better than in the past. And it pains me to say this, okay? There’s no way Aaron Glenn is still the head coach of the New York Jets. They’re horrible and they’re digressing, almost in a tailspin.”

And no, Smith wasn’t done there. He targeted the organization as a whole.
“There are people who have died supporting the Jets. They are horrible. Horrible. And they are the place to go if you want to go down, if you want to dissipate, if you just want to rot. They are horrible.”
The Jets haven’t made the playoffs in 15 years, the longest drought in professional sports.
But there is no doubt about the dysfunction that accompanies this streak. Wilson, 24, knows this after being the team’s first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2022. He has shined, along with a select few teammates, but he has never seen a season above .500, much less in the playoffs.

The Jets are heading into another offseason of uncertainty, especially in the quarterback department. Will they go with another young rookie in the hopes that he turns out to be the long-awaited quarterback of the future? Or do the Jets pursue free agency like they did last offseason considering the addition of Justin Fields didn’t work out?
