The head of Jamaat-E-Islami (JI), Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, announced on Sunday the suspension of the routine activities of the party to focus on a series of protests nationwide in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said: “Jamaat-E-Islami is suspending all normal activities today.”
He described a protest calendar, starting with demonstrations throughout the country on Friday, April 11. “On April 13, we will celebrate a Palestine march in Karachi, and on April 20, we will march towards the United States Embassy in Islamabad,” he added.
Hafiz Naeem said that a delegation of Pakistani parliamentarians would reach Muslim majority countries, including Türkiye, Iran, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt to press for breaking the Israeli block of Gaza.
“There is a cemetery silence on the issue of Palestine worldwide,” he said. “The mask has fallen from the faces of the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe: West is as barbaric today as it was during the dark age.”
Hafiz Naeem also criticized the inaction of Muslim countries. “Muslim nations have wrapped in a blanket of apathy. If they had shown some honor, perhaps the atrocities in Gaza would not have happened,” he said.
He concluded reaffirming JI’s commitment to advocate for Palestinian rights. “We will raise this problem with the government. Even the last time we talk to the prime minister, we call attention to the massacre in Gaza,” he said.
