LAHORE:

Categorically rejecting the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday said granting immunity from prosecution to any individual was contrary to the principles of the Quran and Sunnah.

Speaking at the Lahore Press Club, the JI emir alleged that the debate around amendments 26, 27, 28 and now 29 betrayed attempts to alter the balance of power between state institutions and the judiciary.

Recalling that the JI had opposed similar amendments in the past, he maintained that no individual should be exempt from liability under Islamic or constitutional principles.
