Jim Belushi opens up about a deeply personal experience that has stayed with him for decades and reveals that he still has recurring dreams about his late brother, John Belushi, more than 40 years after his death.
The actor and comedian says these dreams feel less like memories and more like meaningful reunions.
talking to PEOPLEJim, now 71 years old, shared that several of these dreams have stood out over the years, especially those in which John appears healthy, alive and doing what they both loved.
“He’s alive and well, and we were acting together,” Jim said. “We’re jamming at Second City or at Saturday night live.”
In their dreams, the brothers return to the stage, fully immersed in the comedy, as if time had never interrupted their bond.
Jim admitted that even in his dreams, John’s humor gets the best of him.
“I got mad at him because he made me laugh so much I couldn’t stay in character,” she said, remembering how those moments would play out.
“Those were quite pleasant visits.” The actor’s words reflect both the joy and pain of reconnecting with a brother he lost too soon.
John Belushi, a famous Saturday night live Star and performer, he died on March 5, 1982, at only 33 years old.
His death was ruled an accidental overdose caused by acute cocaine and heroin intoxication, often referred to as “fastball.”
More than 43 years later, Jim says the dreams still appear from time to time and offer what he describes as “little visitations.”
Similar thoughts were echoed in a conversation with Varietyand explains: “Every now and then I have dreams in which he and I perform at Second City.”
Jim went on to describe a dream in detail, saying, “We were on stage together and he was so funny that I laughed out loud and ate the scene in front of everyone. I got really angry at him, because that’s the worst thing you can do, change character, right? But he was so funny and said, ‘Oh, come on, kid!’ He was sweet to me. So I still get little visitors.”
Jim Belushi has spoken about his brother many times over the years, often reflecting on their close relationship and their shared passion for comedy.
Today, while starring in the new movie. blue sung song along with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, those dreams remain a comforting reminder that the connection she shared with John never fully faded.
