A joint research team (JIT) has summoned the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Omar Ayub and Aleema Khan for interrogating in an investigation related to an alleged negative propaganda in social networks, said Express News on Wednesday citing Fuentes.

According to the officials, the JIT issued a citation to Ayub and Aleema as part of an investigation into the digital content that is considered to be in violation of Pakistan’s cyber laws.

Aleem Khan has been aimed at appearing today, on March 12, while Omar Ayub has been called to question tomorrow, March 13.

The Federal Government formed the JIT under the Law on the Prevention of Electronic Crimes, 2016. The team is led by the Islamabad Police Inspector.

The sources affirm that researchers have gathered evidence related to accusations before issuing the citation.

More details about the nature of the supposed propaganda and the possible legal repercussions still are not clear. Neither Omar Ayub nor Aleem Khan have publicly commented on the matter.

Last December, the Government launched strict repression against people who disseminated propaganda on the State and its institutions in social networks, and the authorities take quick measures to stop the dissemination of false news.

The authorities identified 12 suspects involved in the circulation of false information and propaganda. The FIRs have appeared against them, with more legal actions ongoing.

Individuals identified in the repression include Mehmood Zeeshan Sajid, Faheem Khan, Muhammad Owais, Manocher, Aziz Ahmed, Saad Adnan Khurshid, Muhammad Asad, Malik Isatullah Khan, Enayatullah, Sultan Mehmood Khan, Kaleemullah and Aurangzeb.

The suspects come from several regions, including Karachi, Sanghar, Quetta, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Swat. They are accused of participating in activities that defame the government, incite the rebellion and interrupt state affairs through inflammatory positions.
