The unidentified gunmen opened fire against the Jaffar Express traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, wiring the driver and causing panic among the passengers.
The attack took place on Monday morning, when the train passed through the areas of Gudalaar and Piru Koneri.
According to Express News, the gunmen forced the train to stop in the mountainous area of Mach, where passengers were taken as hostages. The sources of eyewitnesses and taxes indicated that the shot continued in the area as the train stopped.
The railroad police confirmed the incident, stating that the train stopped and that around 500 passengers were on board. There are unconfirmed reports of multiple injuries among passengers, but the situation is still under investigation.
The public relations officer of the DS railroad confirmed that emergency protocols have been activated in nearby hospitals, and ambulances have been sent from Sibi.
According to the reports, the security forces have surrounded the area around the Mach mountains, which is known for its difficult land. The authorities have deployed additional convoys to help in the operation.
The sources also indicated that the explosives may have been used to damage the railroad tracks before the shot began, and the driver was among the serious injured. According to reports, the gunmen have continued to shoot sporadically, with continuous efforts to free hostages and assure passengers.
Baluchistan has recently witnessed an increase in militant attacks.
No group has assumed the responsibility of the assault on Jaffer Express.
