John Cena’s career in the WWE ring is coming to an end.

He is considered one of the best professional wrestlers to ever embark on a career in the company and the dynasty he helped create has seen him win 17 WWE titles, including the one he won at WrestleMania 41. Cena’s final match will take place on Saturday in Saturday Night’s Main Event against Gunther, who has earned the right to face the legendary superstar.

Cena reflected on his career in an interview with Tom Rinaldi, which aired Monday night. They asked him about a criticism that accompanied him throughout his career.

The Massachusetts native said it was a three-word chant from the public in the middle of his career: “You can’t fight.”

“The ‘You can’t wrestle’ chants because I was doing the same five moves every night and winning every time,” Cena said. “And what I hear from the audience is that I see other artists do these fantastic things and then at the end of the night I see you make five moves and win because, over the course of the story, I’m establishing a dynasty and if it’s not your man, dynasties are hard. So I’ve learned that.”

Cena said he didn’t get angry with the chants. Instead, it pushed him to be better and expand his move set.

“Hearing that phrase, I would just go on to do more things. And it seemed crazy and ‘unorthodox,’ but I listened and went back to wrestling school halfway through my career,” he said. “I went to the newer artists and asked them what they think I’ll be good at. Can you teach me some things? And the newer artists like Sami Zayn, like Kevin Owens, like when AJ Styles first came, CM Punk. Teach me some things. How can I do it better? Making you look good, that’s always my leadership, and what can you teach me? And that’s from the audience, singing at the top of their lungs, ‘You can’t wrestle.’

“Our audience will keep reaching out until they understand you and I don’t… I’ll try to be better and not make this a complete reboot. I’ll try to be better and be my authentic self.”

Cena’s career spanned 25 years with several championships under his belt. His retirement tour this year began at the Royal Rumble, where he finished as runner-up in the match.

He won the Elimination Chamber match to face Cody Rhodes for the WWE Undisputed Championship. He shocked fans with a heel turn that could only draw comparisons to Hulk Hogan. The heel persona only lasted a few months, as he returned to the babyface that fans came to love and adore over the summer.

He and Rhodes fought once again for the title at SummerSlam. He also had matches with Punk, Styles, Logan Paul, Brock Lesnar and Dominik Mysterio during the year.
