John Mara, the co -owner of the New York Giants, CEO and president, announced Monday that cancer was diagnosed.
The 70 -year -old giant executive issued a statement on social networks.
“Recently I have been diagnosed with cancer and I have been following the treatment plan recommended by an excellent team of doctors,” said Mara.
“I feel strong and optimistic, and I am committed to seeing this with a positive result. I plan to remain active with the team throughout my treatment, and I am lucky to be surrounded by incredible, personal, professional and medical support.”
Mara asked for privacy while undergoing treatment.
He joined the giants in 1991 as general advisor of the team and then was the executive vice president and operations director. His father, Wellington Mara, was the owner of the team until his death in 2005.

Mara owns a third generation team in the NFL. His grandfather, Tim, founded the team in 1925. Wellington and Jack Mara took over the team in 1959 when Tim Mara died.
