The field marshal of the Oklahoma Sooners, John Mateer, has denied sports bets after the screenshots of his venmo account became viral on Monday night.
The story of Venmo de Mateer was eliminated until Tuesday, but the supposed transactions made their way through social networks. They were autumn of 2022 while he was a first -year student in the state of Washington, and there was one that referred to USC and UCLA.
The words “sports games” were used twice in the Memo section of the payments.

Mateer issued a statement on Tuesday, saying that it had nothing to do with sports bets.
“The accusations that once I participated in the sports game are false,” Mateer said in X. “My previous venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions in question, but that they were inside the jokes between my friends and I. I have never opted for sports. I understand the seriousness of the matter, but I recognized that, I recognize that those venmo descriptions suggest the opposite.

“I can assure my teammates, coaches and NCAA officials who have no committed to any sports game.”
Oklahoma Athletics also issued a statement on the matter, emphasizing “continuing education to its students athletes, coaches and personnel in matters related to sports game.”
“The department uses Prohibet, which is a standard industry service that offers comprehensive monitoring of sports game activities. OU takes seriously the game accusations and works closely with the NCAA in any situation of concern.

“Ou Athletics does not know any NCAA investigation and has no reason to believe there is a slope.”
According to the NCAA rules, a player who has taken over his own sport can lose up to the middle season of eligibility. In addition, a player who moved in something that involved his own team could face a permanent loss of eligibility of the NCAA.
It happened in 2023 when the former field marshal of the state of Iowa, Hunter Dekkers, lost his eligibility because he opted in a cyclone game while he was the backing in 2021.
Mateer was transferred to the Sooners program after the 2024 season, since he decided to go with the former offensive coordinator of the Washington state, Ben Arbuckle to Oklahoma. Washington State was one of the best crimes in the country last season, with an average of 36.6 points per game.

Mateer scored 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Coupars, while leaving the team to run with 826 yards and 15 scores on the floor.
That was tied with the Miami CAM Ward, the first general selection in the NFL 2025 draft for the Tennessee Titans, for most TouchDowns in university football in 2024.
