“The Philis fully support the prevention and joint treatment program of Major League Baseball and are disappointed when they hear today’s news about José’s rape,” the team said in a statement.

Alvarado will not be eligible for the postseason in case Philadelphia does it.

The left -handed pitcher has been one of the best relievers in the League since he joined the Philis of Tampa Bay’s rays in 2021. He lowered his effectiveness from 2021 to 2023 from 4.20 to 1.74. It had an effectiveness of 4.09 in 66 appearances in 2024.

Alvarado appeared in 20 games for the Filis this season. It had an effectiveness of 2.70 with seven salvages and 25 strikeouts. He went viral earlier this month when he wrote a sweet message to his mother on his hat for Mother’s Day.

Losing Alvarado is a great obstacle to the Philis. The team will have to rely on Jordan Romano, Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering even more as the season progresses.
