Julia Roberts marked a major family milestone this week with a heartfelt tribute to her twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, who just celebrated their 21st birthdays.
The Oscar-winning star took to Instagram on Nov. 28 to share an emotional message for her children, writing, “These game-changers, life-changers, [heart] The expanders were once 1 and now there are 21! That was fast. Happy birthday, my dears.”
The post included a photo of the twins as babies sitting next to each other in matching high chairs, smiling and eating snacks, an image that reminded fans how quickly time really flies.
Julia, 58, has openly spoken about how different life is now that she and her husband Danny Moder are officially empty nesters.
Her twins, as well as her youngest son, Henry, 18, moved away, greatly changing the household dynamic. But instead of sadness, the actress has accepted the change.
“Honestly, it’s all fun,” he recently told Stephen Colbert, describing this chapter of his life as “delightful,” even if it comes with some emotional moments.
She also shared how much she loves spending time with her children and that the visits haven’t stopped now that they are older.
Julia has always spoken proudly of her children, adding, “I know everyone thinks their kids are great. Well, my kids are great.”
And although they no longer live under her roof, she has continued to be the dedicated mother she has always been.
It still asks the classic check-in questions: are they getting enough sleep, staying healthy, and texting when they get home safely.
“I appreciate my two oldest children so much because they still allow me to be the same mother to them,” she previously explained, sharing that there is a mutual understanding and there is no need to roll your eyes.
As Hazel and Phinnaeus reached this important milestone of adulthood, Julia’s birthday tribute was the perfect reminder of how much she loves being a mother and how that bond hasn’t changed, even with her children alone in the world.
