Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Junaid Akbar has resigned as president of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), only four months after assuming the role.

In a video statement, Akbar confirmed that he presented his resignation to the president of the PTI, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan. He said he fully accepted the decision of the party, expressing unwavering loyalty to the founder of PTI Imran Khan.

“Whatever the decision made by the party or Imran Khan, I will not hesitate even a minute and I will accept it with all my heart,” he said. “The titles do not matter to me. If Khan even asks me to resign as president of the party or resign from Parliament, I would do it without a doubt,” he added.

Akbar said that although he has not yet received any direct message from Imran Khan through official channels, he had already presented his resignation.

Looking towards the future, he said he convened a meeting of all PTI office carriers from all over the country on May 15. “The issues regarding our movement will end that day,” he said.

Akbar was elected without opposition as president of PAC in January. In the same month, he was appointed by the founder of PTI as president of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter of the party, replacing Prime Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

While the opposition leader or his nominee, there is no presidency of PAC, there is no legal requirement to enforce this convention.

The position had remained vacant since the general elections of February 2024. Initially, Sher Afzal Marwat was nominated, followed by Sheikh Waqas Akram and Omar Ayub Khan. Akbar’s name was finally finished for paper.
