In a unanimous agreement between the government and the opposition, Junaid Akbar Khan, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), has been elected as president of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly (PAC).

The PAC meeting, chaired by Special Secretary Muhammad Mushtaq, saw key members of the ruling party, the Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N) and the opposition nominates Junaid Akbar for the role.

Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of PML-N, the opposition leader Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz de PTI proposed the name of Akbar, who was backed by the PML-N senator Affan Ullah Khan and Qasim Noon.

The members of PTI and PML-N, including Riaz Fatyana de PTI, also expressed their support for Akbar, which finally led to their election as president of PAC.

After his appointment, Akbar expressed his gratitude to all members for their support. He mentioned that while he expected Waqas Akram Sheikh to assume the role of president, he was honored for responsibility.

Despite having served for 11 years as a member of the National Assembly, Akbar admitted that this was his first experience with the PAC and promised to fulfill his duties effectively with the cooperation of other members.

“I am grateful to the government and my party for this responsibility. I will do my best to fulfill it well, and I will learn from my older colleagues, ”said Junaid Akbar Khan, and added that he would execute the duties assigned for his leadership the best than his capacity.

PTI had also reviewed his panel of proposed names, eliminating Akram in favor of Adil Bazei. Before making the final decision, the president of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, had informed the opposition about the next elections and ordered PAC members to remain in Islamabad for consultations.
