Karachi hit heavy rains, urban floods and energy cuts


The rains of the torrential monsoon whipped Karachi on Tuesday, causing urban floods in several neighborhoods, interrupting traffic and causing generalized power cuts.

The dark clouds covered the city in the afternoon, followed by strong showers with strong winds in areas such as the city of Armjani, Federal B, Gulshan-E-Iqbal, Qayyumabad, Gulistan-E-Jauhar, Malir, Shahrah-E-Fafais, Nazimabad and New Karachi.

The rainwater accumulated on the main roads and the internal streets, with Gulshan-E-Hadeed experiencing severe floods when the water entered into houses, which forced residents to move the values to safer places.

Key intersections such as Hasan Square, Nipa Chowrangi, Jail Chowrangi, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Karsaz and the highway also witnessed the flooding, carrying the flow of traffic to a nearby end point.

Traffic update

The traffic flow remained slow on several important roads through Karachi on Tuesday after heavy rains, police said.

According to the Traffic Police, congestion was reported in the southern district of Capri Chowk to Numaish Chowrangi, Shahrah-E-Liaquat, Baba-E-Urdu Chowk, Ma Jinnah Road, Jamshed Road and Johangir Road.

In the western district, slow traffic was witnessed in Gulbai Chowk, Lakri Godee, Dabba Mor and PTC Gate. Similarly, in the Malir district, the movement was affected along the National Highway and Jinnah Avenue Road.

Police officers said the staff has been deployed to regulate the flow and urged citizens to be cautious while traveling in the areas affected by rain.

Interrupted energy source

Karachi’s electrical system collapsed once again after heavy rains, with K-Electric stability statements demonstrating that more than 609 feeders fired.

The energy utility distribution system remained unstable since interruptions hindered the lives of citizens in several areas. According to Reports, Feeder Breakdowns were remembered in Baldia (68), Bin Qasim (52), Defense (50), Gulshan-E-Iqbal (46), Gulistan-E-Jauhar (62), Korangi (59), Orangi (82), Society (68), emerge, 57) Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, and Othal, Baluchistan (17).

The restoration work could not start immediately since the K-Electric technical teams could not ensure the distance to the ground. In many areas, underground cable failures and flooded substations also interrupted the supply.

Power Outages were reported in FB Area, Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal, Gulbahar, Golimar, Khwaja Ajmer Nagri, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Pechs, North Karachi, Yousuf Goth, New Karachi, Gulistan-E-Jauha Nazimabad, Pils Colonia, Orangi, Manghopir, Baldia, Metroville Site, Landhi, Khokhrapar, Colony Pak, Moosa Colony, Gharibad, Gadap, Kathore Goths, Yousuf Goth, Akhtar Colony, Manzaor Colony, Railway Colony, Qayumabad, Bin Qasim, Othal, and arise.

K-electrical sources said that electricity was deliberately cut in low areas and kunda (illegal connection) as a precautionary measure.

Cm Sindh

Sindh’s prime minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has ordered all interested departments to remain on the maximum alert during the monzone rains in progress.

The prime minister instructed the rescue services and the administration that remained completely mobilized in view of heavy rains.

He ordered strict monitoring of drains and the drainage system to avoid urban floods, and ordered the mayor of Karachi to guarantee that machinery and staff remain active for the immediate elimination of rainwater.

The prime minister advised citizens to avoid unnecessary trips during strong downpours. He also directed the administrations of the District, the Police and the municipal agencies to maintain the coordination.

The Traffic Police has been ordered to remain alert in low and busy places and to provide a complete guide to the public during the rain.

In addition, he urged people to stay away from electricity posts and weak infrastructure, and instructed that monitoring systems are strengthened to keep citizens informed about climatic conditions.
