Islamabad:
The Senate Railway Committee was reported on nearby rail projects, in progress and slopes, as well as the main challenges that are currently facing the Railroad Ministry.
The meeting, chaired by Senator Jam Sifullah Khan, was informed that a total of 38 projects worth RS 260,085 billion during fiscal year 2024-25 were carried out. Of these, six projects have been completed, while 32 have been carried out to 2025-26.
While informing the Committee, Railways president described the main project of the Line-1 (ML-1), which covers from Karachi to Rohri, as a “life line” for Reko Diq and Thar Coal projects, which is expected to begin this year, subject to the availability of funds.
He pointed out that the total estimated cost of ML-1 is RS2,298.18 billion, and a proposal has been submitted for the allocation of RS75 billion in the 2025–26 financial year to start the project.
The committee was also informed that 12 additional projects, which cover the expansion of the track, security improvements, rehabilitation, track replacement, feasibility studies and improved security systems, require an assignment of RS11.076 billion in the next fiscal year.
