Last night around 10 pm on Thursday, people of Karachi faced problems with their internet and online services. Internet service providers such as PTCL and Stormfiber, as well as services and applications such as WhatsApp, YouTube, Amazon Web Services and Instagram, suffered outages, reports Downdetector.
According to the outage monitor, PTCL and Stormfiber services faced issues in the same time period, between 9 pm and midnight. PTCL recorded 112 reported outages at its peak around 10:30 pm, while Stormfiber recorded 59 reported outages. Most people complained of internet outages, although some experienced a complete blackout of services.

On Friday, the PTCL spokesperson denied that there had been any cuts. “There was no problem on the part of PTCL.”

Meanwhile, Stormfiber’s automated call response said “we are experiencing a sudden downgrade on one of our [service providers],” and are “coordinating with the upstream provider” to resolve these issues.

Social platforms down
People also complained about Instagram and Facebook going down, with the number of reports for both reaching highs of 134 and 65, respectively. There were also reports of YouTube and X experiencing outages, but there were only a total of 16 reports for the former and four reports for the latter.

WhatsApp recorded a peak of 120 reported outages, with 55% of users reporting problems with sending messages, 32% with server connectivity and 13% with the application itself.
On average, people’s complaints concerned the websites, the respective applications and server connectivity, but the majority of complaints focused on the inability to connect to the Internet.
When asking some Stormfiber users, most said they had “really poor internet” last night; However, one user did not see much change in the quality of their connection. For the most part, these issues only persisted until midnight, with people seeing a return to normal services as of this morning.
