- KIA says he will offer Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and LG channels
- Entertainment is only available when it is parked
- It is not free, since it is part of a subscription -based package
Kia is the last of a large number of manufacturers that begin to offer entertainment of great success within vehicles, with a new subscription -based entertainment package that unlocks Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and more.
Available only when they are parked, the new optional packages essentially unlock access to some of the most popular transmission services in the world, but also offer things like Karaoke Stingrayas well as Baby Shark World for Children.
Soon in the recently released KIA EV3, the South Korean brand says that additional software will soon be presented to New Sportage, EV4, EV5 and all the next models in the future.
That said, it will only be executed in those newer vehicles that work with the Automotive Content platform based on LG Webos, which discounts older EV6, for example.
Currently, it is also available only for European markets, for now with North America and other regions to do the same. The standard entertainment package, which will be offered for free for a year, only admits the transmission of music and youtube through Obigo.
A more complete (and expensive) entertainment plan gives access to Netflix, Disney+ (in limited European countries) and YouTube through a native application.
Finally, an entertainment package Pluswifi launches all of the above, as well as a Wi -Fi access point function in the car, which means that passengers can tie and navigate using the vehicle data package.
Analysis: The search for boredom has a price
KIA joins a growing list of car manufacturers that are transforming their information and entertainment systems into medium transmission devices when they are parked.
Mercedes-Benz, for example, has offered Disney+ tastes through its MBUX system for some time, while Tesla’s built-in browser can access transmission applications such as Netflix, YouTube and Hulu.
The specific Porsche passenger screen, which is available in Taycan, Panamera and Macan as an optional extra, even allows the front seat passengers to enjoy a movie or play games when the vehicle is moving.
More and more, we are seeing digital screens inside the double flat of the vehicle as entertainment platforms to kill time when they park … something that many EV owners are still doing while waiting for the batteries.
It is a great distraction and perfect for those moments that forgot to pack iPads or other digital devices for children.
There have been numerous occasions in which I have taken the minutes playing a pop questionnaire or seeing an episode of Color In the passenger seat with the little ones while we wait for a load session to be completed.
That said, the decision to collect only to access transmission services seems a backward step, particularly when most people are already spending a fortune every month in entertainment plans as it is.
Kia will charge £ 74 per year (around $ 100/au $ 154), or £ 7 (around $ 10/au $ 15) per month, for its most basic package, with prices that increase to £ 34 (around $ 46/au $ 70) during the first three months for entertainment plus the Wi-Fi package.
This adds to the £ 80 (around $ 108/AU $ 166) a year required for the Kia Connect data package, which is free during the guarantee (7 years), but is exhausted when vehicles enter the used market.
