Kieran Trippier makes a surprising but emotional departure announcement from Newcastle.
Kieran Tripper’s departure marks the end of an era at the Saudi-owned club.
Trippier joined Newcastle in January 2022 in a £12m deal from Atlético Madrid which helped improve his form.
Newcastle was taken over by Saudi Arabia in October 2021.
He played over 150 games for the club, scoring four goals and was a member of the Carabao Cup-winning team that crushed Liverpool at Wembley in March 2025.
Eddie Howe’s side are set for a summer revamp at a time when there are doubts the manager will mark his fifth anniversary at St James’ Park this November.
This was stated by the 35-year-old right-back in an interview published on the website of his farewell club, Newcastle.
Emotional Trippier said: “The time has come for me to leave this incredible club after four and a half years.”
“This is where I’ve felt most at home. It’s emotional and I’m really going to miss it.”
“I want to thank the fans enormously for all their support in good and bad times.
“You have always supported me, you have always supported me.”
Fighting back tears, she said, “To my teammates, it’s going to be emotional. It’s been an incredible journey with you.”
“I’m going to miss you all. I’m going to miss you all, but winning a trophy with you was really special, the best thing of my career.”
Trippier then directed his gratitude to Howe, adding: “And to the coach, Eddie Howe, the entire coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a huge thank you.
“I’m going to miss everyone at the club. Thank you.”
Tripper retired from the Three Lions in August 2024, after having triumphed in major tournaments.
