The driver of an oil tanker was killed, while more than 40 others suffered burns wounds when the vehicle exploded after fire in the Noshki district of Baluchistan on Monday, confirmed the attached commissioner (DC) Amjad Hussain.

26 critical injured individuals were transferred to Quetta through an air ambulance provided by Baluchistan Prime Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, added the attached commissioner.

According to the police, welding work was being carried out in the truck loaded with oil parked in a deposit in Noshki when suddenly caught fire. In an attempt to avoid a larger disaster, the truck driver led the flame vehicle outside the terminal to an open field.

The driver, however, succumbed to his lesions for burns in the place.

Meanwhile, the oil tanker, who had become a fireball, exploded, hurting more than 40 people, including a DSP and other police personnel that was present there to move the citizens away from the scene.

A fire tender was also damaged in the incident.

Citing reports, a provincial government spokesman said that more than 30 people suffered lesions for burns in the tragic incident in Noshki.

“The intense fire also damaged a vehicle from the Fire Brigade,” added the spokesman. In addition, they said that an emergency had been declared in the hospitals in Quetta to facilitate the injured.

Calling the incident as “tragic”, the spokesman said the investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire.
