King Charles and Queen Camilla took an emotional step to wipe away the tears of survivors and their families at Buckingham Palace.
The royal couple looked somber as they held a special reception to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. They also attended a candlelight ceremony to remember their loved ones.
His gesture lifted the spirits of the families who survived or lost their loved ones.
The annual commemoration falls on January 27, coinciding with the date of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
They lit candles as a symbolic act of remembrance and hope for the future.
This year’s celebration is themed Uniting Generations, encouraging younger people to absorb and pass on the lessons of this dark chapter in history.
The day serves as a reminder of the six million victims, along with the millions of people who died at that time.
During the reception, guests viewed portraits of seven survivors who had been honored for their services in raising awareness and education.
These paintings were commissioned by Charles as Prince of Wales and are currently displayed in the East Wing of Buckingham Palace.
