King Charles III’s goddaughter India Hicks has opened up about a recent skin cancer scare in an emotional social media post.
The British designer and businesswoman, 58, is the daughter of Lady Pamela Hicks.
Mrs Hicks shares a close connection with the royal family, as her mother is a descendant of the House of Mountbatten.
Lady Pamela is Queen Victoria’s oldest living member and was Prince Philip’s first cousin.
In a social media post, Hicks said: “I was hoping to spend a whole week at home. A week with no airports, no security lines, no lost chargers or boarding groups. Just stillness. But life, with its own mysterious choreography, changed the plan.
‘The results of a recent skin cancer operation came in and the news was not very good. It’s not a dramatic movie scene, it’s not great, but it is disturbingly not great.
‘The kind of news that makes the world a little blurry around the edges. The results showed a worrying area of fast-moving cancer on the bottom of my calf.
‘I reacted like most people do: a strange mix of matter-of-fact calm and a bit of private terror. “You tell yourself you’re fine, you make tea, you answer emails, all while a little voice inside whispers, ‘What if it’s worse than we thought?'” Hicks adds.
For those who don’t know, Hicks was a bridesmaid at Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding.
This revelation comes just a year after both the king and Princess Kate shared their own cancer diagnoses.
